Never Give Up

"I will not give up until I win," said Roman, a determined 12-year-old boy from Ukraine who, along with his grandmother, found a smooth integration into Georgian society.

Roman is a motivated young individual who actively participates in Judo classes organized by ASB Georgia in partnership with the Judo Federation. Thanks to his dedication, he had the opportunity to compete in a Youngster's Tournament organized by the Judo Federation, an experience he greatly appreciated.

Despite the defeat, Roman remains undeterred and is even more motivated to practice and strive for victory. In his own words, he stated, "I will practice more and listen to my trainers, I dedicate myself to improving so that I can achieve success next time. I have a strong desire to continue my Judo training and become successful in it. Taking part in Judo classes has been a fascinating experience for me, as I learn valuable self-defense techniques and improved my confidence."

In addition to his involvement in Judo classes, Roman actively engages in English lessons and other activities provided by ASB Georgia for Ukrainian refugees. He has also immersed himself in the Georgian school system and has made significant progress in speaking the Georgian language. Reflecting on his journey, Roman shared, "These classes are incredibly valuable to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of them. Although my father is Georgian, I grew up in Ukraine and was unable to speak the Georgian language. Since coming here, these activities have helped me improve my language skills. Now, I can freely communicate with my teammates in Judo, and we can understand each other."

Roman's story is an inspiring testament to his perseverance and determination to overcome challenges, embrace new opportunities, and continuously strive for personal growth and success.

Note: ASB Georgia is offering FREE Judo self-defense classes to Georgian and Ukrainian women and youth! Join anytime for ongoing self-defense and de-escalation classes in three cities in the country: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi.
