Homecare for elderly in Kazreti

Nani cannot move independently and lives in a high building, where the elevator is not working. She is not able to leave the house, to escape her “four walls”. She cannot take stairs and has no one who can help.

Nani Diakonidze is 69 years old. She lives in Kazreti, Bolnisi municipality. She is one of the participants of homecare project for elderly, organized by “Women's Initiative”.

Nani cannot move independently and lives in a high building, where the elevator is not working. She is not able to leave the house, to escape her “four walls”. She cannot take stairs and has no one who can help.

“She does not have a wheelchair and that makes her conditions even worse, she moves around using two chairs and has fallen down few times. She could have easily injured herself” said the head of “Women’s Initiative” Madona Kaflanishvili. Project employees (doctor, caretaker, housekeeping assistant and technical help) visit Nani 3-4 times per week. They help her with everyday chores, like washing dishes and laundry, cleaning the apartment, buying products and medicines, etc. They also provide necessary medical support. “Thanks God for these people in my life. I was already distressed from asking my neighbors for help. They made my complicated life conditions easier, but the biggest problem, still ought to be solved, is that I do not have a wheelchair. Town’s municipality promised me to give me one, but I have not received it yet. It is getting harder for me to move.” said Nani Diakonidze and asked our organization for a wheelchair because we are her only hope.

In 2014 new project is in process with partnership of Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund and  IDP Women Association "Consent". The project is funded by the European Union.

The aim of the project is to promote social entrepreneurship and partnership between private and public sectors in Bolnisi Municipality. The social enterprise, that helps elderly people in need, was established under this project.
